get to know Sydney, Echosmith’s lead singer
and experience her tour life behind the scenes

music

As a musician, how can you relate to the indigo rd. brand?
Discovering indigo rd. was fun because they were clean, fun, and experimental. We like to have those aspects in our music too.

How do you think music inspires your style?
I think music is directly correlated with fashion and style. An opera singer would probably dress different than a girl in a hard rock band. I like music to feel both effortless and fun, and that's how I feel about my style too. Both music and style are just expressions of who I am.

What advice do you have for aspiring musicians?
Be patient. Overnight success is rare, and hard work is required. So get ready to put yourself out there while being honest and creative with your music.

Who is your musical icon? Why?
My musical icon is Coldplay. They have such an amazing message tied into their amazing music. They use their platform for good, which is inspiring.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I've been doing music since before I can remember. It was something that felt natural and an obvious career choice. I had never really considered anything else, and luckily never had to.

Were you raised in a musical household?
Yes! My brothers and I grew up playing music since we were tiny humans. Our dad is a music producer and songwriter who left all kinds of instruments around the house for us to play with.

Currently, what artist/album can you not stop listening to?
I can't stop listening to Troye Sivan. So. Good.

Living or dead, what artist would you love to do a musical collaboration with?
I would love to collaborate with Coldplay or The Killers. Chris and Brandon have some of my favorite voices in this industry.

life on tour

What are three items you can never go on tour without?
My softest-blanket-in-the-world from home, snacks, and tea.

How do you choose what looks to wear when performing?
Dresses and skirts are my go-to. I love sparkles, all black with a pop of color in my shoes, and fun patterns. What I wear really depends on my mood that night, but I love experimenting.

Do you have any tour rituals?
I have a certain drink concoction that I have every night. Throat coat tea with warm pineapple juice, lemon, ginger, honey, and a little bit of cayenne pepper. Delicious and makes any sore throat feel amazing instantly. That's as ritual-y as I get.

Do you have a favorite look you like to perform in?
I have this Coach leather skirt that looks so good with any shirt. That's been one of my favorites lately.

What’s your favorite song to play live and why?
I just love playing Cool Kids. That feeling I get on stage, seeing our fans' faces light up, never gets old.

What has been the most memorable moment of your career, so far?
Playing The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, twice was a huge dream come true. We never thought we would get to play on our favorite late show.

What’s your craziest/funniest tour story?
Tripping on stage is always funny, after the fact. This has happened quite a few times, but that also never gets old, to me or the crowd. Gotta keep it real.
